Issue #2: I watched a lot of new things this week
And by new things, I mean movies that came out in 2009. I’m currently working on a crochet blanket for my living room, and it’s taking a LONG time. Blankets are a real commitment. While I crochet I’ve been trying to expand my reach to watching new things.
I’m a HUGE comfort watcher. I’ll watch the same movies over and over again.
My biggest comfort watch is The Mummy, which I watch maybe… three times a week. I just like having it in the background while I work.
Another one is Sorcerer’s Apprentice which is a movie I’m pretty sure I’ve seen more than anyone else.
Anyway, I’m trying to watch new movies with a focus on sci-fi since that’s what my next writing project will be.
I don’t think I watched much beyond comfort watches in 2023. DEPRESSION, BABY. You don’t want to risk feeling anything other than what you know or what you are used to! But it’s time to get out! It’s time to be inspired.
Dune created a monster, and now I want more. None of these were as good as Dune, though. Should have known that:
Here are some very quick reviews of a few of the movies/TV shows I saw:
Ghostbusters Frozen Empire -- Something something ghosts! Ice! Fire! I don’t know, I forgot that movie right after seeing it. I’ll always watch a Ghostbusters movie. There’s something about the combination of lore and humor and fun. This movie isn’t very good but I enjoyed watching it. It’s perfect for the theater but I likely would skip it if I was watching it at home. Rating: My popcorn was delicious.
Cloverfield: This is a found footage movie about a Godzilla-like creature that attacks New York. While watching this I couldn’t helping thinking that I wished this was Godzilla because I LOVE Godzilla. Rating: Very 2009.
District 9: Aliens as refugees in South Africa! This movie manages to be kind of racist while also being a movie about racism which is fascinating. The movie itself is really good. It’s SO well-made and the world building is excellent. This movie also inspired me to look deeper into South African politics. The audacity??? IN AFRICA??? LIKE? Rating: Lots of audacity
3 Body Problem: I wish I could tell you about this show. I’m so confused. Rating: ??????
The Gentleman: Rich British people shit! Theo James! SIGN ME UP. I don’t want to tell you too much about this show. Just go watch it. It’s very, very good. Rating: Top of the morning to ya!
I also watched Interstellar for the first time since I saw it in the theater and hated it and I still hated it. I FORGOT MATT DAMON IS IN THAT MOVIE.
What is your comfort movie?

I feel like I never fully talked about why I decided to stop talking about K-pop. I was going to write a whole essay, but instead, this image says it all:
Also, if you want to hear more about why, I wrote an essay late last year on it. I’m a little surprised about how much I unplugged from the K-pop machine, but I think that’s a side effect of leaving social media as well. I do know I’m doing much better mentally because I used to be sad that K-pop didn’t have the same pull but now I know I don’t need it anymore.
Scent Of The Week:
London Fog by Lovesick Witchery
The only thing I can count on is my obsession with tea scents. This one is the perfect balance of Lavender, Tea, and a little bit of cream.
This is one of the only smells that still smells good to me. I recently realized that PMS drastically impacts what my nose likes. I recently got into more milky scents which shocked me because I hate milk but now everything smells like baby puke.
Anyways, you can get it here.
This week I’ve been reading Hip To Be Square which is a crochet book that features a lot of fun and colorful projects. I’m SO excited to try one of these!
